The UK government has announced that four rural regions will receive funds ranging from £5 to £10 million as part of the high-speed broadband pilot plan.
The four regions that will participate in the high-speed broadband pilot scheme are the Islands and Highlands in Scotland, the Golden Valley in Herefordshire, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
The government has planned to invest £530 million for rural broadband infrastructure across the UK. The four regions will benefit from high broadband speeds that are normally found in urban regions. The government estimates that the pilot plan will help in reducing expenses and challenges involved in deploying high-speed broadband services across the country.
BT recently announced plans to deploy fiber-optic broadband services for houses across the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall. This deployment represents the largest urban high-speed broadband project in the country.
