Vitesse Used MIPS Processors to Develop Ethernet Switches

Vitesse Semiconductor, a provider of high-performance ICs, has developed six Ethernet switches by using the processors of MIPS Technologies. The Ethernet switches, coupled with the EcoEthernet 2.0 green technology of Vitesse, provide enhanced energy efficiency and performance.

The new VSC7429 and the VSC7428 Ethernet switches are part of the Caracal switch series, which in turn is part of the scalable, broad range of Carrier Ethernet Switch Engines. Both the Ethernet switches are utilized for FTTx passive optical network, mobile backhaul, and carrier Ethernet applications.

The company also developed the VSC7427, VSC7426, VSC7425, and VSC7424 Ethernet switches under its SparX-III switch series. These switches are utilized in small/medium business, small/medium enterprise, and green enterprise applications.

Vitesse stated that the SparX-III series offers network security, differentiated service delivery, and substantial power savings. The SparX-III series decreases the power consumption in SME network, by a maximum of 50%, and offers up to 25% swifter network management.
