Lightwave Provides Update on Nonlinear Optical Property of Perkinamine NR Molecule

Lightwave Logic has provided an update about its work related to third-order study of Perkinamine NR molecule. The company develops advanced Electro-Optic Polymer Material Platform for optical computing and fiber-optic data communication applications. Lightwave Logic collaborated with Lehigh University physicists to demonstrate the promising applications of its optical material beyond the telecom areas.

The third-order optical nonlinearities do not need any electric field to power the light passage via a material. This nonlinear optical property has made this technology area to be called as light-switching-light optical technology.

The Lehigh University has tested the Perkinamine NR molecule’s polymer composites. After testing, the university determined that the molecule has quick nonlinear response with the modulation potential of 1 THz. The university also determined that the Perkinamine NR molecule is 2600 times more powerful than combined silica and 100 times stronger than the present off-resonance small molecule.

The CEO of Lightwave, Jim Marcelli stated that the tests confirm the distinct properties of the Perkinamine NR molecule, which offer huge potential applications for computational data transfer, optical computing and optical switches.
