High-Brightness LEDs Market to Grow by 68% in 2010

According to an industry expert, the market for high-brightness LEDs will grow by 68% in 2010. The high-brightness LED industry will reach to an estimated value of $9.1 billion by the end of this year.

The announcement was made by Dr Robert Steele, LED Japan/Strategies in Light 2010 conference’s Chairman and an Analyst of Strategies Unlimited. According to him, the compound annual growth rate is expected to reach 27.8% through 2014. In addition, the worldwide sales of the LED market will grow to approximately $18.4 billion.

Dr Steele stated that the LED market grew by 6.2% in the year 2009 with sales reaching $5.4 billion. Reduced sales in the first quarter of 2009 were followed by three consecutive quarters of development. The high demand is driven by significant interest in LED backlighting for LCD televisions and notebook PCs, Steele remarked.

The analyst said that the LED lamp luminaire and replacement market would increase by 35% in 2010 at the end user level.
