Alcatel-Lucent and EPB Fiber Optics have announced the availability of 1 Gigabit broadband service for the US business and residential customers in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
EPB’s high-speed optical fiber network provides services to more than 100,000 businesses and homes in Chattanooga and the neighboring rural regions. Chattanooga provides the fastest broadband service in the United States, with the help of the new 1 Gigabit symmetrical service.
The network in Chattanooga is powered using Alcatel-Lucent's GPON (gigabit passive optical network) technology, and it will offer speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Businesses and homes in the nine-county service area of EPB will have the access to the new network.
EPB’s Chief Executive officer and President, Harold DePriest stated that the fiber network offers new opportunities for businesses and residents in Chattanooga. With the fastest broadband access in the country, Chattanooga has a good potential in applications for industrial development, healthcare, entertainment, education, and others, DePriest noted.
