AccessKenya to Build Fiber-Optic Network in Mombasa, Kenya

Provider of fiber-optic broadband services in Kenya, AccessKenya Group will build a fiber-optic network infrastructure in Mombasa, as part of its plan to construct an IP-based fiber network in Kenya.

The new carrier Ethernet network will enable triple-play, VoIP, videoconferencing and other services.

The fiber-optic network is constructed as a ring that makes sure if one side of the network is hindered, the traffic is diverted to the other side of the ring, resulting in no downtime for the users. When the broken part is fixed, the network traffic is rerouted to the original side.

AccessKenya has selected Enterprise Generale Malta Forrest (EGMF), an engineering company and a contractor, for managing the laying of the fiber-optic infrastructure. EGMF has been instrumental in various fiber-optic deployments across Kenya. AccessKenya has already laid 140 km of fiber-optic metro network in Nairobi.
