Hillcrest Labs has signed a global license agreement with LG Electronics to deploy Hillcrest Labs' Freespace in-air pointing and motion control technology in LG’s existing and future solutions. LG is currently utilizing Hillcrest’s patented technology in the LG 3D-ready Internet-connected HDTVs.
The Freespace technology offers a comprehensive solution for in-air pointing and motion controlling in various CE systems such as PC peripherals, game controllers, and remote controls. The Freespace technology powers the Magic Wand remote, which will be incorporated in LG's specific models in the new INFINIA series of LED LCD HDTVs. LG’s INFINIA models offer a thin bezel, slim design, and improved Internet connectivity. Various entertainment selections such as the NetCast Entertainment Access of LG are also available. Integrated with a wired Ethernet jack, the INFINIA TVs utilize a USB wireless broadband adaptor to and can assimilate with a wireless home network. These INFINIA sets are the first TV models to utilize the LG Magic Wand remote control system.
The Magic user interface combines Internet-based applications, embedded games, television menus, and easy hand motions to control the TV’s on-screen cursor. The use of the Magic Wand remote, along with Netcast, features pointer accuracy, tremor removal, intuitive cursor motion, and no line-of-sight, allowing customers to navigate and access Internet-based applications for the television.
