Troy Cablevision, TV, internet and telephone service provider, has received a total grant of $26,068,284 to build a fiber-optic network in Ozark.
The project called the Southeast Alabama SmartBand Project will offer broadband connectivity to Dale, Coffee, Crenshaw and Pike counties. The project is expected to generate over 100 jobs relating to optical fiber installation, technical support, service and accounting, among others.
Congressman Bobby Bright stated that the project will set up a new fiber-optic network, which will provide a key broadband connectivity between the four counties.
Jimmy Copeland, Special Projects Director at Troy Cable, remarked that the project is anticipated to generate a minimum of 145 jobs and will be completed in the next three years. The project will benefit 3,600 businesses, 127,000 people and 53,000 households, he said.
Diane Holman, the Assistant Superintendent of Ozark City Schools, stated that the optical network project will enable wireless connectivity across the city and will provide an affordable solution for parents.
