Aero Pro, a company that performs painting and stripping, announced that it is developing a laser stripper to remove paints for airliners at the Marine Logistical Center in Barstow.
The company’s President, Mike Allen; and Chief Executive Officer, Joe Ermalovich said that they will use the stripper on a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle to demonstrate its feasibility and flexibility.
The technicians of Aero Pro have made several enhancements and modifications to the stripper. They have developed portable machines to move to various locations. The portable machines can be used to strip paints for applications where chemicals are restricted.
The lasers are good at removing paint microns from composite materials. It is now increasingly becoming famous in aerospace applications. Ermalovich stated that many 55-gallon drums of toxic strippers are required to strip a plane. He added that the company plans to deploy some portable machines on hoists and strip down an airplane in minimal time. He commented that as the technology is safer than harmful chemicals, employees of Aero Pro do not need to dress up like spacemen to do the stripping.
