BroadLight Introduces Next Generation GPON Processor Devices

Fiber access processor-supplier, BroadLight has announced the new BL23500, the 3rd Generation GPON Processor family for the fiber access mass market.

The GPON Processor family is a set of 40nm devices, which will be available to the consumers in the fourth quarter of 2010. The processor series features the lowest manufacturing cost, and the most economical implementation.

The BL23500 comprises a VoIP DSP, the RunnerGrid Network Processor, and a MIPS controller, creating a new fiber-grade architecture that fulfills the requirements of the residential GPON gateway market and GPON CPE platforms. The new device provides advanced power saving modes and uses EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet).

The consolidated software platform of BroadLight allows a software development setting to develop MDU/SFU/Gateway solutions quickly. These solutions combine high OLT interoperability level with TR-69 and OMCI interworking with the GPON processors.

Infonetics Research’s Broadband and Video Directing Analyst, Jeff Heynen, stated that the 40nm GPON processor family meets the customers’ requirements of reduced power consumption, while offering field-proven interoperability.
