Philips and Federal Agencies Install VizorLED Luminaire in DOL’s Parking Facility

Philips, the Department of Labor (DOL), and the Department of Energy (DOE) have decided to implement the DOE’s GATEWAY demonstration project in Washington, D.C. The project analyzes and emphasizes the real-time examples of high-efficient LED lighting to minimize energy consumption and enhance illumination. The federal agencies and Philips have collaborated to install Philips’ proprietary VizorLED fixture to illuminate the parking deck beneath the DOL’s facility.

The VizorLED fixtures replaced the existing 100W HPS (high-pressure sodium) lamps. The LED units have a 7-year rated life and approximately 18-years of potential life. The fixtures are anticipated to use 50% less energy compared to the earlier lighting system. With the deployment of the VizorLED, the parking deck-test area’s total power was reduced by 50%, from 2565 W with 0.154 LPD (Lighting Power Density) to 1292 W with 0.077 LPD.

The VizorLED luminaire was designed by Philips Wide-Lite by utilizing Philips Lumileds’ LEDs. The VizorLED units feature the Proximo occupancy detectors that dim  the lights when the area is vacant, thus resulting in increased power savings. The fixtures reduce glare, increase efficiency, enhance volumetric lighting uniformity, and set up an attractive and secure environment for parking and walking purposes.
