Cablenet Communication Systems with an aim to increase its optical network capacity has bought equipment from Ekinops, a provider of advanced optical equipment. The equipment will enable transport over an individual optical fiber in a bidirectional manner and this indeed optimizes the fiber infrastructure of Cablenet.
In 2003 Cablenet started off as a cable TV provider and then shifted its focus to Internet access and fixed telephony services. The first triple-play package was launched in the market by Cablenet in 2007. Businesses and residential consumers now have access to improved services such as high-bandwidth and other innovative services.
The Ekinops 360 optical transport platform purchased by Cablenet from Ekinops enables increasing the traffic amount of 10G services over a single fiber through wavelength division multiplexing. In general optical transport systems transmit optical data with two fibers but the Ekinops 360 optical transport platform allows service providers to choose single fiber transport or dual fiber transport.
Cablenet has reduced its transport infrastructure costs with the usage of the Ekinops 360 optical transport system that allows 10G services to be transported in large volumes over a single fiber and allows long distance transmission of services without the need for inline amplifiers.
Antonis Vasili, technical director for Cablenet, has expressed the company’s satisfaction over the flawless performance of the Ekinops 360 optical transport platform in a cost-effective manner from an OPEX standpoint and a CAPEX standpoint.
