Dow Corning which specialises in silicones and silicone based technology will display silicone-based materials at the exhibition titled “Strategies in Light” which is to be held at the Santa Clara Convention Centre during February 7-9, 2012.
At its counter, the company will display materials that have the capacity to withstand high temperatures, protect electronic components that are highly sensitive, optically transparent and have the capacity to withstand intense light and materials which are white and hence reflect light without causing much loss of light.
Geoff Gardner, the Global Marketing Manager for the lighting division of the company, will lead a conference session where he will explain all the lighting applications where silicone is used starting from the use of silicon on the die to lamp assembly. He will also talk about the issues faced by the lighting industry with regard to combining these materials in LED products.
Material manufacturers are facing intense pressure from the lighting industry to invent new materials that meet the cost, lifetime and application targets since the lighting industry is presently moving from incandescent and fluorescent lighting to LED lighting. Silicone-based materials are the ideal solution to this transition since they display desirable qualities such as resistance to moisture, thermal stability, high purity, adhesion levels and optical clarity as compared to organic materials.
