Lighting Science and Dixon Technologies Launch Sub-$15 High-Performance LED Bulb

Lighting Science, a manufacturer of LED lighting solutions, and Dixon Technologies India, a manufacturer of electronics products in India, have revealed one of their jointly-developed products, namely, a high-efficiency, sub-$15 omni-directional 60 W equivalent A19 LED bulb, which will be launched in India by the year end, and will be available for sale globally by Lighting Science Group in the beginning of next year.

sub-$15 LED Bulb

By using the state-of-the-art technological design of the Lighting Science Group, the bulb is the first in a line of products that are produced and distributed jointly by the two companies. The complete series of products include outdoor and commercial light fittings, street lights, and replacement bulbs producing intense light, consuming low energy unlike any products presently available in India, thereby setting fresh standards for lighting product efficiency.

The LED lighting market in India is anticipated to reach $400 million by 2015 which is approximately 53% per year, making it one of the most rapidlygrowing areas of one of the most rapidly developing economies globally. According to the Indian Power Ministry, the country aims to construct 80 novel coal-fired power plants to cope up with the increasing need for power consumption in the next five years, and by switching from normal light bulbs to the novel LED technology, the country’s power demands can be considerably reduced by 40%.

Constant availability of good quality power is important for continuous economic development, and progressing towards eco-friendly LED lighting will enable reaping energy-saving benefits. The freshly introduced Lighting Science definity bulb can be easily fitted into present screw-in light sockets, creating a bright, clean light level, the same as a traditional 60 W incandescent bulb, consumes 85% less power, and is capable of handling the variable power quality in India and other developing countries. The novel bulb consumes 35% less electricity than compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), and has no toxic mercury. As LEDs are long-lasting, have high efficiency and improved quality of light, the technology is changing the $100 billion lighting industry worldwide completely.
