Overture Launches New Edge Platforms with Optical Ethernet Capability

Overture Networks, carrier Ethernet solution provider, has unveiled two edge platforms that are optimized for end game applications. The ISG4800 and the ISG400 devices have optical Ethernet capability. According to the company, the ISG4800 platform is optimized for 1 to 10 Gbps services, while the ISG400 is optimized for 1 Mbps to 1 Gbps services.

D. Mark Durrett, Director of Marketing at Overture network, stated that the ISG4800 platform required only two or one 10 Gig boxes, while other products use packet optical boxes that have repositioned Ethernet switches or limited Ethernet capacity. Durrett added that network operators can deploy the ISG400 platform in legacy networks. When the platform is prepared to move from SONET to GigE, a cable can be moved and re-plugged to make it a complete Ethernet demarcation unit.

Durrett commented that the company aspires to offer 1500 new capabilities demanded by Ethernet service provider customers. The capabilities include high-granular configuration of class of service and quality of service and would allow service providers to distinguish their offerings. A number of service providers have already signed up for the company’s new platforms, Durrett added.
