SDN Communications Expands Fiber-Optic Network in South Dakota

SDN Communications, broadband service provider, has announced that it is extending its optical fiber network into Yankton, South Dakota, USA. The company is spending $25 million to expand the fiber-optic network, out of which $20 million was granted by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.

Yankton city is the fourth community in South Dakota to gain from the fiber-optic network expansion, which will offer broadband access services to over 300 government facilities, schools and hospitals. Yankton’s local court systems will be one of the beneficiaries that can use the network for videoconferencing purposes.

According to the Yankton Press and Dakotan reports, the fiber-optic project will get over by 2012 end and an additional 359 miles of optical fiber cable will be added to South Dakota. The additional network will benefit 75 communities.
