Ciena 100G Coherent Optical Solution Receives Broadband InfoVision Award

Ciena announced that the 100G coherent optical solution has received an award under the Core & Metro Network Innovation and Advances category, in the Broadband InfoVision Awards that took place at the Broadband World Forum, in Paris.

The 100G coherent optical solution allows operators to maximize the bandwidth of the 40G and 10G fiber networks by 2.5 and 10 times, respectively, with the use of  easy plug-and-play technology modules. The optical solution avoids the necessity for the deployment of new equipment, or for redesigning the network.

The research and development team of Ciena has constructed advanced technologies for high capacity and high-speed networking. The new solution uses forward error correction; analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters; digital signal processing; wireless-inspired modulation techniques; and optical coherent receiver. The company has deployed the 100G coherent optical solution in the European network of Verizon for about a year. The solution has performed over 15 trials with global network of operators.

Ciena’s Senior VP of Corporate Marketing and Communications, Tom Mock stated that the company is pleased to receive the honors for the 100G solution. He added that the optical solution increases the capacity of the networks to clear network congestion, prior to the start of the traffic jam.
