National Grid, Home Properties Collaborate for Lighting Fixture Replacement

Home Properties has collaborated with National Grid power company of Boston to replace lighting fixtures. National Grid will replace existing lighting fixtures in about 1,400 common areas and apartments, at the apartment communities in Boston, with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).

People at Home Properties’ Highland House, The Townhomes of Beverly, The Meadows at Marlborough, The Heights at Marlborough, Stone Ends, Liberty Place, and Westwoods apartment communities will also benefit from the lighting program. The CFLs can be used for 6,000 to 15,000 hours as compared to the shorter usage of 750 to 2,500 hours of a standard incandescent light bulb.

The separate apartments will obtain upgraded CFL bulbs and fixtures, while Home Properties has explored ways to minimize energy consumption in all general regions. Home Properties has requested National Grid to install motion sensors, as well as, timers to trigger lighting only when in use. National Grid will start to install the fixtures and CFL bulbs at the apartment communities in Boston area in October 2010.
