Transmode Helps Starnet to Expand Fiber-Optic Network in Moldova

Supplier of Optical Networking Solutions, Transmode, along with NEC, announced that StarNet has enhanced and extended its fiber-optic network in Moldova, by deploying a Transmode TM-Series Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network. StarNet is the chief provider of Internet services in Moldova.

StarNet provides various services to its customers ranging from web hosting and installation of servers to high-speed broadband and IPTV. It also has a Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network to provide internet services.

NEC, one of the major distribution partners of Transmode, implemented the new optical network of StarNet based on eight 10 Gbit/s channels. The main Transmode system deployed in the fiber-optic network is the TM-3000 that enables substantial expansion in the transmission capacity.

The Technical Manager of StarNet, Oleg Burlacu stated that the Transmode TM-Series DWDM network consumes less power than the metro DWDM solutions previously deployed in the country. He added that the company would expand the fiber-optic network between Romania and Moldova to carry SDH and 10 GbE services in a single system.
