In environments such as nuclear power plants and nuclear fuel recycling facilities, conventional vision cameras and optical lenses have a very short life due to damage caused by the high background radiation.
Closely collaborating with specialist camera manufacturer Custom Cameras Ltd (Wells, UK), Resolve Optics has delivered radiation tolerant lenses to help offer a turnkey solution for tracking operations in a remote manner in high-radiation nuclear surroundings.

Our radiation-resistant cameras are used in a growing number of applications within the nuclear power industry. In designing cameras for this challenging environment, we have to consider the tolerance to radiation of all components as well as the overall design.
Tony Moon, Custom Cameras Ltd
Moon added, “We choose to use fixed focus and zoom non-browning lenses from Resolve Optics because of their in-depth knowledge of the requirements of optics used in a nuclear environment, willingness and ability to adapt designs to suit customer requirements, excellent technical support, and competitive pricing.”
Resolve Optics provides a series of non-browning (radiation-resistant) zoom lenses that are suited for application-optimized use in high-radiation surroundings.
All of the optical elements that are used within Resolve Optics’ non-browning lens designs are made with the help of cerium oxide doped glass or synthetic silica. This allows them to resist radiation doses ranging up to 100,000,000 rad and temperatures of up to 55 °C in the absence of degradation or discoloration of performance.
Such radiation-resistant lenses offer high image resolution and the least geometric distortion, ranging from 400 to 750 nm. Resolve Optics’ non-browning lenses are developed for use in CMOS and CCTV vision cameras and with Chalnicon and Newvicon tubes.
Resolve Optics Ltd. (Chesham, UK) is known an internationally respected developer and supplier of application-optimized lenses and optical designs for several high-technology businesses.
It prides itself on delivering custom lenses and optical systems to customers in several markets but is internationally renowned for its knowledge and expertise in space, aerospace, and nuclear industries.
Once a design inquiry has been received, Resolve’s talented optomechanical design engineers start an in-depth review of the custom optics’ target application and performance specifications. The team then asks any further questions to obtain a complete understanding of the project and the goals of the business.
As soon as the project design specifications are approved, the client and Resolve become OEM collaborators with a common goal of creating an advanced optical solution customized to the exact requirements of clients.
Resolve prides itself on transforming every customer’s requirement into an improved optical design, running projects successfully, and effectively manufacturing production quantities of lenses and optical products to the given quality and target price. The main aim of the company is to provide improved custom lenses and optical systems that fulfill the requirements of clients and increase their competitive edge and profitability.
