Phillips Lumileds, a provider of high-power LEDs and solid-state lighting solutions, has announced that it has introduced LUXEON Z power LEDs that provide a high lumen density in an ultra-compact package. It is touted to be the smallest high-power LED package.
The LUXEON Z enables a high level of customization in luminaire design. Luminaire designers will be able to utilize the small un-encapsulated LEDs in their desired optical and packaging configurations for lighting solutions. Philips offers the LUXEON Z in white and in a complete spectrum of colors ranging from 440 nm to 670 nm.
The LUXEON Z can be used for creating mono-color arrays, multi-color arrays and 2x2, 3x2, 6x1 arrays for new as well as existing luminaires. It employs the building block approach that enables innumerable number of configurations. In terms of lumen densities, nearly 250 LUXEON Z LEDs can be mounted within a square-inch space.
The LUXEON Z LEDs can be used in remote phosphor-based lamps, moving-head spotlights, wall-washers, and tunable retrofits. This enables designers to utilize the modular approach and develop new specialty, architectural and entertainment lighting products. These LEDs do not require any secondary lenses that are inefficient and complex. Customized optics can be included in the un-encapsulated chips in the LUXEON Z LEDs.
The VP for Product Management at Philips Lumileds, Rahul Bammi stated that the LUXEON Z Power LEDs provides designers flexibility in design through its building block approach.
