Yangon to Get Fibre-Optic Internet Service

Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) has announced that six private companies will provide a fibre-optic internet service across Yangon.

Companies such as High Tech Princess, Shwe Than Lwin, E-Trade Myanmar, Elite Tech, Red Link Communications and Fortune will provide the internet service to the region.

Red Link and Fortune introduced the fibre-optic internet at Yadanabon in March 2010. In June 2010, the service was expanded to Mandalay with 6000 new connections.

MPT official informed that the companies will also provide other services such as phone calls and internet pay television in Yangon. The companies are currently discussing the projects with housing project managers and condominium owners, who have shown their interest to adopt the service. The fiber-optic service would be 8× faster compared to other internet connections, the official said.
