One the largest non-profit blood organization in the U.S., Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) will implement BIO-key's sophisticated TruDonor biometric ID solution to streamline the process of blood donation. The TruDonor ID solution provides a quick and easy solution to determine the identity of blood donors.
The TruDonor automates the donor check process and removes the need of producing identification documents such as social security numbers or driving licenses. This technique helps in protecting the privacy of blood donors. At the touch of the donor’s finger, the software tracks the OBI database to produce positive identification proof. This saves the time devoted for check-in process and also removes the possibilities of any human mistakes.
OBI’s President and Chief Executive, John Armitage, M.D., informed that in addition to protecting the privacy of blood donors, the software also reduces the risk of duplicate donor identification records in their system.
BIO-key’s Sales Director, Jim Sullivan, informed that OBI selected the company’s ID solution because of its ability to track the OBI database and to identify the donor just at the touch of a finger. He further added that the ID solution features a fingerprint reader independence, which allows the users to perform verification, identification and enrollment processes through the fingerprint scanners, which are developed by major fingerprint reader makers. Systems such as workstation keyboards, cell phones, tablet PCs and laptops that are embedded with fingerprint readers can be utilized to determine the donor's identification, he added.
BIO-key’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mike DePasquale, stated that the TruDonor ID solution completely automates the process of collecting blood from eligible donors and reduces the expenditure involved in blood collection.
OBI provides blood to more than 150 medical organizations in north central Texas and Oklahoma. The organization’s headquarters, donor facilities and labs are situated in the Oklahoma City-area. The Texas Blood Institute located in Wichita Falls is also operated by OBI. The company will implement BIO-key's TruDonor ID solution on later part of 2010.
